2025 RACING ROUND UP

Updated: Aug 4

Apologies in advance… I’ve done my best to round up the recent results, but with so many hitters doing so many epic things, not just on the road, in TTs and crits, but also gravel, XC, enduro, and who knows what else (yaknow - fell running, sailing etc 😜) - it’s getting harder and harder to keep up! If I’ve missed anyone out, it’s not for lack of appreciation. This club is buzzing right now, and it’s a joy to try and keep track of it all! (to be fair all I've really done is trawl through Colin's Facebook posts and copy and paste)

First up, on March 15th Marcin was 3rd at the one of the traditional season openers - the Gifford Road Race , a race described by some as... grippy

On April 13th, John Bowman delivered a standout ride at the National Road Bike TT Championships, finishing 16th overall and 1st in the V40 category. That result earned the club its first ever national TT medal - another historic moment for MCC and a cracking ride from John.

In May John and Rich were away in Girona racing the highly competative Trakka200 - John did well to come away with 20th vet. The following week the club was very well represented at the Gralloch UCI gravel race in Scotland where John was 8th vet.

May 6th saw Remco cosplay enthusiast Mateusz Mazik bag his first TT win at the Derwentside 10. Great to see all that half-wheeling pay off.

Marcin on the Gfford podium

On May 25th, the club put in a dominant showing at the M254 TT. Daniel Kane finished 2nd overall, Lee Ager came 7th and won the road bike category, and together with Kyle Hodgson, they secured the team prize. Meanwhile over the border on the same day, Ryan Parkinson was 5th at the Peebles Road Race — a personal favourite of mine on the calendar - and Jack rode well to finish inside the top 20.

On June 8th, Ryan continued his strong run of results with a 7th place at the Eastern Promise Road Race. Marcin was 12th and 1st vet.

On June 12th, Darren Robson stormed to victory in the evening TT, clocking a brilliant time despite blustery conditions.

Just a few days later, on June 15th, Hugo took 2nd overall at the Allen Valley Mountain TT — one of the hilliest TTs in the country.

On June 19th, Jack topped the podium at the Carlisle crit with a brilliant win in a fast and technical race. A great result against a strong field.

The following evening, June 20th, saw the team pack the leaderboard at the Derwentside 10. Daniel Kane was 2nd, Hugo 4th and 1st on a road bike, Lee Ager 5th, and Mateusz 7th. A real show of depth from the MCC TT squad.

On June 28th, Ryan Parkinson and a few others tackled the 110km Dalby Grit gravel race through the North Yorkshire Moors and came away with an impressive 4th place. A tough day on the rough stuff and a strong ride.

before you ask, words have been had around the number pinning game

On July 10th, Jake Dobson claimed victory in Round 11 of the CCA Summer in the City Crits in Carlisle. The final round on July 24th saw Ryan take the win to cap off a brilliant series for the Muckles. Across the Carlisle crits, the squad performed superbly:

  • Rich took two 2nd places and a 3rd, and also placed 8th at the Masters National Crit Champs

  • Ryan collected two wins, a 2nd, and a 3rd

  • Jake scored two wins, two 2nd places, a 3rd, and a 4th

  • Marcin placed 3rd in the Carlisle Masters race, racked up 11 top-10s

Congratulations on your regulation length jersey sleeves

On July 13th, Hugo sealed the 2025 N&DCA BAR title with his first open TT win. The result gave him maximum points in the road bike league: 3 wins at short distance, 2 medium, and 1 long. He also led MCC to the team win on the day, alongside Lee Ager (2nd) and Ryan Parkinson (4th). Massive thanks to Phil Gilbanks and the team of marshals and helpers — a proud day for the club.

And finally, on July 27th, Daniel Kane claimed 2nd place at the M12 TT in damp and breezy conditions. The roads were slippery on the bends, and one rider did slide off — fortunately only the skin suit was torn. A solid ride from Dan and another step closer for the club as we aim to complete the BAR.

Once again, apologies if I’ve missed anyone or overlooked a result - there’s just so much happening across so many disciplines, it’s a full-time job trying to keep up with you all, AND keep up with Love Island. But what a brilliant problem to have. Big respect to everyone flying the flag, wherever and however you’re racing. And with hill climb season just around the corner, the fun is just getting started…
