Muckle Road Race - women's
Sunday 13th May 2018
Saltwick Circuit, Northumberland
After the success of our mens road race in 2017, we wanted to get a women’s road race established
as there was nothing in the north east road race wise for women to enter. Waking up on Sunday
morning, it was textbook Saltwick weather, soaking with the promise of more rain on the way.
The Muckle course set up team worked hard to get the roads free of gravel and mud and the stage was set for the race to start. Around 30 women rolled off from HQ, from a wide mix of teams and the first lap was quite cagey with the wet conditions playing their part but the 1 st time up the saltwick hill, the selections were being made and a group of around 12 established themselves.
The race stayed like this until with 3 laps to go, Christina Weijak of Barrow City Whelers in her first road race made a break and powered away from the field and solo’d all the way to the chequered flag, even crossing the line and not realising she had won. 2nd and 3 rd place were taken by ??? and ??? respectively.
Christina has since gone on to ride for Jaden ?? and is racing on the National circuit now.
