Muckle Hill Climb

Sunday 20th October 2019
Prospect Hill, Corbridge, Northumberland

Our third annual hill climb was well supported by local riders again, with 100 taking to the start line and a good mix of riders of all abilities. It was a cold October morning that greeted the riders, the surface was a slick due to some overnight rain but a prevailing tailwind would be of some comfort of those wanting a fast time.

For the first time there would be a new name on the overall winner trophy, and the start list showed the winner could come from a dozen or so riders. As is customary our ex Muckle of the Year Ian Stanners kicked the event off, this year rocking a Rod Stewart meets Braveheart look that had to be seen to be believed. Following Ian, it was great to see a lot of riders getting into fancy dress and enjoying the last HC of North East season

Cheered on by a fantastic crowd, with support at all of the hairpins, the event progressed through the Vets, juniors and female categories. The rain that had threatened hadn't materialized and the last dozen or so riders took to the start line ready to do battle for the overall win.

Grace Inglis of Muckle CC riding in her 1st HC for MCC took the victory ahead of Harran Farran in the women's category. Other results of note was Benjamin Johnston who was 15th overall but is a juvenile. Muckle CC locked out the three podium spots in the team prizes with a fantastic showing of strength in depth.

Our own clubs riders did their best to snatch victory but a smash and grab from David Huck riding for Barrow Central Wheelers in the North West prevailed with a time of 3mins 54seconds. The only rider to go under 4 mins on the day. Matty Smith and Andy Richardson (both from Muckle) rounded out the podium.
